Otago wineries redefine the phrase "I'll Have a tall one."
Chard Farm will always be special for me because it was the first winery I visited in New Zealand. Actually, Chard Farm is probably special for anyone who visits there. Spectacular scenery, an awesome setting, and excellant wine. Drive east out of Queenstown, a few miles out there will be a deep gorge on the right, the winery is on the far side. On the left, as the highway crosses the gorge, is the original commercial bungee jump site off the old and elegant Kawarau Suspension Bridge. Just past the bridge, its a hard right onto the lane to drive back to the winery. That would be the better part of a mile on a narrow, unpaved path with a plunge into the gorge in case you watch the scenery instead of the road. Take a look!
