Winemaker Kim Crawford is a one man tour-du-force in the New Zealand wine trade. He started and built his reputation with Cooper's Creek and then added additional clients on both islands. He started bottling his own brand and, eventually, left Cooper's Creek to concentrate that. Since then, he has become perhaps the most rapidly expanding operation in the country with vineyards in Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Marlborough. It was announced in May, 2003 that the brand name was sold to a Canadian producer, Vincor, while the properties will be retained by current ownership.
