The basic analogy is: Montana is to New Zealand as Gallo is to California. There are many similarities. Montana makes about 60% of the wine produced in New Zealand; roughly the same percenage as Gallo in California. In 2000, Montana bought the then second largest producer, Corbans, which included the Stoneleigh, Longridge and Huntaway labels. In 2001, Montana Wines was purchased by Allied-Domecq, which also owns Mumm, Perrier Jouet, and lots of others. Like Gallo, Montana will have a wine for every segment of the market and it will always be good quality and value for its price range. A large winery and visitor center has been built south of Blenheim in Marlborough.
